The holiday season is almost here, and it’s the perfect time to fire up your gas grill for festive gatherings. But what if your grill isn’t lighting up as it should? Don’t let technical issues ruin your celebrations—here’s how to troubleshoot common problems:
1️⃣ Smell Gas But the Grill Won’t Light?
- Do not press the igniter, strike a match, or try to light the grill. If there is no flame and you can do so safely, turn off the grill controls and the gas supply. If the smell continues, you cannot safely shut off the gas, or you smell gas while cooking, move everyone away and call the fire department from a safe location. Do not move the grill. Even if the smell stops, do not use the grill again until a qualified professional has serviced it and any leak has been repaired.
2️⃣ Clicks but No Flame?
- Stop trying to ignite the grill and turn off the burner controls and gas supply. If you smell gas, follow the warning above. Before any cleaning or inspection, let the grill cool and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your model. Do not attempt gas-system repairs yourself; contact a qualified professional if the problem continues. See the CPSC gas grill safety guide and NFPA grilling safety tips.
